Inheritance

One day all this, my son
will be yours to manage.
How many times proud parents
have used a similar mantra
to inform their offspring
of accumulated wealth
that will come their way?
It is in this manner
that dynasties are born.
The genitors are usually
magnates or financiers
who have built an empire
based on material goods.
But it is uncommon
for an entire emirate
to be offered freely
to an heir, on a plate.
Peaceful transitions
are rare in certain regions
so we may speculate
what prompted this move.
It was certainly unexpected
and we shall wait and see
what is the game being played.
Will it be a trump card
that’s needed to bring benefits
or will it be a check mate
to stifle opposition?
